Girls Tennis

Judge Memorial's own lady bulldogs sliced, smashed and swung their way through the season, finishing in fourth place at state, just one point under their all time rivals Juan Diego. The season concluded on that cool October evening, at the state tennis tournament held at BYU. "We may not have came in first place, but we won in every aspect of team spirit, citizenship, friendship, and integrity." Says senior Chesley Price.

Unfortunately, the team is loosing some great seniors, who brought much skill, and positive attitudes to the team. " The team will not be the same without the girls. They always knew how to make us laugh, and were so kind and accepting, regardless of their age or ability." Proudly states sophomore Chloe Ropner. The girls and all of their positive attributes will be missed.

"Though the team will be loosing a few members, a very bright season is expected of the girls next fall. All of the girls have improved so much this season, that we have so much to expect of each and every one of these girls!" Claims head coach Lani Wilcox. Though the season may be over, the lady bulldogs are keeping up in the tennis circuit, and will surely be shining in the bulldog spotlight next fall when the season begins.

Girls Tennis Team in Action

The Judge Memorial girls tennis team is off to a great start this year. This year, the team has 22 girls, four of them freshman. They have been training and playing practice matches, to be sure that they are in peak condition for the seasons opening match against the 4A school, East High. The team did extremely well, winning almost every match.

It is no wonder why the team is doing so well, they are being taught by the best, head coach Lani Wilcox, and Assistant coach Mary Mancini. Lani began playing on the professional circuit at the age of 14, playing with some of the best players in the world, and hasn't slowed down since. Currently, Lani is the head coach at Liberty Park tennis center, which is the team's home court. "The team is so lucky to have Lani. She has so much to offer, and may be one of the best coaches you will ever come by." Says assistant coach, Mary Mancini. And Mary is definitely one who would know! Beginning tennis at a young age, she instantly fell in love with the game. She played tennis competitively throughout college, and continued to play.

Evidently, a passion for tennis runs in the family. After watching their mother play, they quickly showed an interest and pursued it. Her oldest daughter, Megan, played for judge all through high school, and currently plays college tennis in Tampa. But the talent doesn't end there. Mikelle, who is currently a junior at judge, holds the number one spot in singles on varsity. Not only is she known for showing extreme skill on the court, but also team spirit and a cheerful attitude off of the court.

One of the best things about the team is that every girl gets along. The team can compete, but be friends at the same time. You can always count on these girls to be there and cheer you on. Everyone is of equal importance on the team, and is just as involved as the others. Tennis is often viewed as an individual sport, but at judge we really are a team!
So next time you are in the mood to watch a lively, fun sport, come stop by and watch the tennis girls slice, spin, and smash that ball, all while having the time of their life! We look forward to seeing you there!

Girls Freshmen tennis

The girl's tennis team in past years has been an amazing team and squad and it just got better with ten new additions to the team, ten new freshman girls. This season has been great for the fresh new tennis players. Serving, slicing, spin, and winning has become a regular routine for the girls who have enjoyed playing the game, traveling to matches and meeting the older girls who also love the sport. The Fresh Tennis girls took the Junior Varsity by storm and won almost all of their matches until region where all but one lost. The varsity part of the team advances to state this weekend. One senior, Three Juniors, Two Soft-mores, and one freshman will do their best this weekend and hopefully lead us to victory!

Girls Tennis Ready for Region

On Wednesday the Lady Bulldogs took on the Wasatch Wasps again but didn't have the same result as last time. They played some tough matches against the Wasps at Libery Park but couldn't come away with the win.

"We didn't play very well at all," said Junior Alexis Naylor. "But we'll be back and ready to go for region."

The girls did have some success this week with a win today over the Waterford Ravens. Senior Megan Mancini played her first match back from her injury which is good news for the team. Next week the girls will take yet another trip up to Wasatch to take on the Wasps again. Then next Friday and Saturday region games start at Liberty Park, and hopefully the girls will smash their way into the State Championships.

Girls Tennis

This week girls tennis took on the Waterford Ravens at Waterford and took them down in style, sweeping all the games. All varsity and junior varsity singles and doubles won all their matches. "We played really well and now we've won two in a row," Avery Noorda said. "Everyone's all playing good," said junior Jaqi Pok.

The Bulldogs are still missing their senior captain Megan Mancini who has a cracked sternum and is unable to play #1 singles. Next week the Lady Bulldogs play Waterford again on the September 20 at Liberty Park.

Lady Bulldogs swat the Wasps

The Lady Bulldogs had an on and off week this week, with a tough loss to rival Park City on Tuesday, sweeping Judge. But they bounced back with strong play from Avery Noorda, Mikelle Mancini and Morgan Rockwell, winning every single game against the Wasatch Wasps, sparking some momentum moving into next week. "Yeah, we kicked butt today," Junior Alexis Naylor told me when I asked about this week's action. The girls will take on the Waterford Ravens next Tuesday at Waterford, so get out there and support our girls.

Girls Tennis

The Judge girls tennis team is off to a swinging
start this season with a big win this week over
Uintah. Lead by Senior Captain Megan Mancini the
bulldogs won all their matches against Uintah except
for one doubles JV match. Jaqi Pok and Alexis Naylor
smashed, sliced and swung their way to victory in
their #2 Doubles Varsity match. I talked to Alexis
Naylor and she said, "I think we have a good chance to
do really well this year, and I'm having a lot of
fun." The girls will take on the Miners of Park City
September 4th at Park City. Let's hope they keep on
rolling.
