Anime Club

Last year the Anime club wasn't very organized and didn't really have a point, but this year the improvements are spectacular. Keawe Kali is the President of the club and she's done an excellent job of turning the Anime club into a club that anyone would want to join. The participants in the anime club will be learning and teaching each other new things that deal with the Japanese animation world like drawing, movies, dancing, conventions and so much more. Judge Baseball, Preparing For Another Run At State

Judge baseball had a successful summer with some promising freshmen playing on the summer Varsity Prep team. The 17-and-under team had a good season, with some wins, but they battled with 4A and 5A teams. Right now Judge is participating in a fall-ball league to get players more game time experience. The off-season is just around the corner and soon you will be able to hear the sounds of metal on leather coming from the Weigrand Dance Studio.

Hockey Team Gets New Coaching Staff

The Judge Memorial Varsity hockey team has a whole new line-up this year, and not just on the roster. Former assistant coach Anthony Pike has taken over the position of head coach on the team. Cole Fisher, another assistant from last year, has also returned with his teammate Chuck German for the University of Utah hockey team. Both Fisher and German have played on the U of U hockey team for a few years, and are contributing both their college level experience and their skating skills to the betterment of the team. The Bulldogs have also been blessed with a group of new freshman players, including a new goalie and several sharp skaters who are already adding their talent to the team at practices. After losing veteran players Sean Abel, Marc Potvien, Kris Kanger, Dakota Kummer, and Chris VanWagenen, the team is barely at a full roster. However, with all the new talent and perspective, the team stands a high chance of having another great season.

Wasatch Tournament Results

The golf team participated in region play at Wasatch on August 29. Andrew Etzel was the strongest performer with a 75 and took 2nd place overall. Johnny Murphy, Will Bowers, and Michael Hanover all scored for Judge on their way to a 3rd place finish. They play again next Thursday at Union.

Football

"This was the hardest working team I think I have had during a two-a-days," announced coach Cordova about this year's Bulldogs. The hard work seemed to pay off as the Bulldogs came out victorious in their season opener against North Sanpete 42-7.
The Bulldogs are returning after one of their best seasons in nearly 20 years including a playoff run that lasted till quarterfinals. The Bulldogs had a bye last week but play Woods Cross, a 4A school tonight at Judge.

Girls Basketball-Ready for a New Sesaon

Girls basketball is getting ready for another great season. Many players
kept in shape by joining an AAU team and some girls are playing fall sports.
Try-outs should be the beginning of November. With the addition of a new
coach for the sophomore team, this season should be great.

Boys Soccer

Even though the boys soccer season is still months away, there has been talk among the players about the appointment of Kelly Terrill as the new head coach. Terrill, who succeeds Mike Gillis as head of the team, attended Judge Memorial and graduated from Notre Dame. He is anticipated to bring much experience and success to the team throughout this next season. Currently Terrill coaches for Sparta United and has been a part of the club for over 4 years. Hopefully Coach Terrill will get the team back on track and put a few wins up on the board. For returning players, there is an informational meeting on September 5 at 7:30 in the Judge Auditorium.

Largest Dance I class ever

Judge Memorial Dance Program Packed With Young Talent

Headed by Ms. Jeanette Sawaya, the dance department at Judge Memorial Catholic High School presents a vivid pallet of classes for all dancers. Held in the Weigand Dance Studio, boys and girls alike are encouraged to participate in the multitude of dance styles offered by this renowned department for all levels.

This week we turn our attention to Dance I. This year the dance department prides itself in catering to the largest Dance I class ever taught by Ms. Sawaya. Although this class contains freshmen and sophomores, the boys at judge opted to let pass this wonderful opportunity. The course contains a large composite of dance styles, everything from jazz, to ballet, to several native African dances taught by the dynamic Ms. Washington. All things considered, those who had were fortunate enough to register for this dance class can assure themselves the privilege of an eventful year.

Dance Company 2007-2008 has announced officers for both the junior and senior classes. Officers are being used this year to help lead the company and its memebers. This year's officers are:

Amnesty International kicks off

Amnesty International held its first meeting on Friday, August 31. Freshmen can expect Amnesty members to stop by their English classes next Thursday, September 6, to discuss the purpose of Amnesty International, and to hopefully accquire some new members.

Judge Boys Lax Practice Begins

This Wednesday, August 29, there was a meeting for anyone interested in joining the lacrosse team. Those who had fall sports did not need to attend the meetings, me being one of those people. From what I have heard, Fall practices begin on September 11 and anyone who does not already have forms may get them in the athletics office from Coach Reed or you can email Nancy Allen at allen@cvrti.utah.edu

Girls Soccer

The girls soccer team has finally completed their tough preseason. The team has struggled a little, but they have also played some very elite teams and even managed a win against 5A Hillcrest. The team suffered their heaviest loss of the year when forward Jenna Sliwinski broke her collar bone in the first game of the season. The team is ready to start region play and hopefully make a run into the state playoffs.

Hockey is hittin' the ice

The hockey season is off to an early start, literally. They have started practice every Wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. at Steiner. They don't have a schedule yet, but the season should include 14 Varsity and JV games, and at least 16 practices. The games are expected to start in September.
